I’m a Civil Engineer at Turnbull Engineering and a recent graduate of UNSW.
I decided to pursue a career in Engineering Design because of the power designers have to shape the community around them. From day one I have felt like I am having a direct and tangible impact on the way that our cities operate, which has been deeply satisfying.
“What really drew me to Turnbull Engineering was the opportunity to learn from industry leaders in an environment that’s free from internal politics and red tape”
I started with Turnbull Engineering late in 2018 after completing my Civil Engineering degree. In my first 18 months, I’ve worked on a range of transport projects, having the opportunity to work on-site carrying out site inspections, and in the office learning to use design tools such as 12d to prepare deliverables for our clients. I’ve also had the opportunity to travel both within NSW, and interstate, and recently spent 6 months working in Canberra on a major rail project.
Outside of engineering I’ve taken on a role as the Graduate Recruitment Lead. It has allowed me to get involved with the operations side of the business and given me opportunities to hone my softer skills.
As a young engineer, the best thing about Turnbull Engineering is the emphasis that’s placed on my learning. Everyone that I have worked with, be it my performance coach or a company director, has shown a real interest in my professional development. They provide coaching and constructive feedback, and the collaborative environment has meant I’ve never had any hesitation in asking my co-workers for guidance when I need it. My biggest piece of advice for any candidate going through the recruiting process is just to be yourself. We want to get to know the real you, just as you should want to get to know the real us. This is the best way for you to see if Turnbull Engineering is the right fit for you.
