TransGrid Powering Sydney’s Future
Snap Shot
As part of the TransGrid - Powering Sydney’s Future
initiative, the 83.5 m Bedwin Road Cable Bridge was designed to carry a new transmission cable over Sydney Trains passenger lines. The new, complex cable bridge incorporated a cycleway, forming a much-needed East-West connection for cyclists over the rail tracks. In addition, the 26.5 m Muir Road Cable bridge was designed to carry the transmission cable over a disused good line.

Concept design, detailed design, and construction phase services
Highlight/Outcomes
Innovation
The design was developed to avoid temporary excavation of the existing retaining wall and a potential clash with buried electrical cables.
Quality
Bedwin Road Cable Bridge Abutment A has been designed with a unique foundation featuring micropiles.
Cost Saving
We identified the opportunity to apply for a concession to ASA to remove the requirement for an independent deflection wall for Pier 1. This saved approximately $750,000 in construction costs.
Time Saving
Turnbull proactively engaged various stakeholders and collaborated with the constructor to establish an approval pathway program, effectively tracking progress and mitigating approval risks that could disrupt construction. Timely execution of this program prevented potential delays caused by varying approval timelines and dependencies, including the need for Council street lighting before the electrical design can proceed.
