Snapshot
Batemans Bay Bridge
The Batemans Bay Bridge project was initiated by TfNSW to replace the existing bridge over the Clyde River. The scope of this project included upgrades to several road approaches along the Princes Highway as well as surrounding local roads. This was undertaken to provide more reliable connections across the river, improve traffic flow and therefore access into Batemans Bay.

Highlights
Accelerated utility approvals
Turnbull worked closely with the constructor and utility owners to accelerate approvals to construct utilities. A dedicated approvals program and team allowed resources to be focused.
Value engineering without delays
Turnbull identified multiple opportunities to modify the project scope in order to reduce cost and construction time associated wtih utilities and traffic staging. To avoid delay, Turnbull allocated additional resources to drive the value engineering options alongside the original program.
3D models to drive certainty
We provided comprehensive 3-dimensional modelling of utility elements. This was conducted to a level of detail beyond that generally adopted throughout the industry. This resulted in a greater certainty of model information and efficiency in the coordination of the utilities model.
Scope
Services
Turnbull was engaged by John Holland to provide engineering design and design management services during the design and construction phase of this D&C project.
Traffic staging design
Pavement design (temporary)
Temporary works
Utility coordination and design
Design management
Street lighting design
Road safety audits
Traffic management plans
Temporary drainage basin modelling
Staging on 2 Major Highways
Construction staging design minimised impacts to traffic on the Princes and Kings Highways
Constructor-Side Design Management
Turnbull provided the Constructor with a Turnbull design manager to support them in driving positive outcomes from their principal consultant.
Effective Delivery High-Risk Scope
Turnbull were trusted with high-risk design elements: Utilities, temporary boat ramps and construction staging.
Flexible and Responsive
While the Turnbull team was located in Sydney, over 4 hours drive from the site, they travelled to site regularly during design to to meet with the constructor, utility authorities and the client to ensure constraints were thoroughly understood.
